Thai PM Paetongtarn Praises Military for Safeguarding Border Amid Tensions with Cambodia

UBON RATCHATHANI, June 21, 2025— Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra paid a morale-boosting visit to Ubon Ratchathani on Friday, where she expressed deep appreciation to the armed forces for their dedication to maintaining peace and security along the Thai-Cambodian border following a recent cross-border clash.

Addressing military personnel at the Morakot Operation Base and local volunteers in Nam Yuen district, Paetongtarn commended the 2nd Army Region, led by Lieutenant General Boonsin Padklang, for their bravery and resilience in defending Thai sovereignty, particularly in light of the confrontation in the Chong Bok area on May 28.

Visit Aimed at Reassurance and Recognition

The prime minister’s visit focused on boosting the morale of the Suranaree Task Force and assessing the current security environment along the eastern border. She was joined by Defense Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, who echoed her praise for the military’s efforts in preserving national integrity.

Paetongtarn and Phumtham distributed care packages to members of the village security teams—civilian volunteers who assist the military in peacekeeping operations in Dom Pradit Subdistrict.
