Termination of Khairuddin as Director-General of JKOM is normal

PUTRAJAYA: Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has confirmed the termination of Dr. Mohd Khairuddin Othman as the Director-General of the Community Communications Department (JKOM), effective yesterday.

According to the Wilayahku portal, he, however, declined to comment on the reasons for the termination.

Fahmi stated that any contract position involving appointment or termination follows a process, and this is a normal matter.

“I confirm that his service was terminated yesterday.

“In issues regarding contract positions, any appointments and terminations follow a process, and such appointments and terminations are ordinary.

“It is based on the orderly process I just mentioned,” he said.

He made these remarks at a press conference following the Cabinet meeting at the Ministry of Communications.

Meanwhile, Fahmi said the position of Director-General of JKOM is currently being held temporarily.

However, he mentioned that the duration for filling the position permanently has not yet been determined.

Mohd Khairuddin, who is also the Secretary of PKR Selangor, was appointed as the Director-General of JKOM starting March 1 to fill the vacancy previously held by Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohammad Agus Yusof.

In 2020, the government led by Perikatan Nasional (PN) rebranded the Department of Special Affairs (JASA) to JKOM, with different roles and functions.

JKOM aims to establish two-way communication between the government and the people by providing accurate, credible, and wise information.
