Stabbing at School: Verdict to Be Known on 14 September
SHAH ALAM: The verdict in the case of a 15-year-old teenage boy charged with murdering a 16-year-old female student in a stabbing incident at a secondary school in Bandar Utama last year will be delivered by the High Court here on 14 September.
Lawyer Kitson Foong, representing the juvenile accused, said Judge Adlin Abdul Majid set the date after hearing oral submissions from both the prosecution and the defence.
“The prosecution argued that the accused was of sound mind at the time of the incident, was aware of his actions and had planned the murder.
“Thus, they claimed that all elements of the offence had been proven,” said Kitson after the proceedings concluded.
The defence hearing for the teenage boy ended on 26 August, with prosecution and defence proceedings lasting 10 days beginning 3 August.
On 16 January, the Petaling Jaya Magistrate’s Court was informed that a psychiatric report confirmed the teenager was fit to stand trial.
The teenager, who was 14 years old at the time of the incident and a Transition Class Form One student, was charged with murdering his schoolmate between 9.20 am and 9.35 am on 14 October 2025.
No plea was recorded from the teenager because the murder charge falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
The charge was brought under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for the death penalty or imprisonment for a minimum of 30 years and a maximum of 40 years, and no more than 12 strokes of whipping if not sentenced to death.
However, Section 97(1) of the Child Act 2001 stipulates that the death penalty cannot be imposed on a child under 18 years of age.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutors Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharudin, Aqharie Durranie Aziz, Ahmad Iqbal Azman and Nurul ‘Izzati Mohamad.
Meanwhile, the defence was also represented by lawyers Chew Jee San, Angel Choo and Yan Zhi Wei.
