KUALA LUMPUR: Singapore’s Senior Minister, Lee Hsien Loong, is confident that the relationship between the republic and Malaysia will continue to prosper under the reign of the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim.

According to Bernama, Lee, who is in Kuala Lumpur to attend the coronation ceremony of the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong at the National Palace today, also extended his best wishes to Sultan Ibrahim in his new role.

“I am honored to attend the coronation ceremony of Sultan Ibrahim.

“Sultan Ibrahim and I have been long-time friends who have known each other for many years,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Hsien Loong, who served as Singapore’s Prime Minister for nearly 20 years, noted that the last time they met was in May.

He mentioned that Sultan Ibrahim was visiting Singapore for his first State Visit as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia at that time.

“His Majesty graciously extended an invitation to me then,” he said.

The Singapore Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) stated yesterday that Hsien Loong was among a select group of foreign leaders invited by Sultan Ibrahim to attend the coronation ceremony.

He, along with his wife, Ho Ching, and delegation, arrived in Malaysia yesterday and is also scheduled to attend a Royal Dinner tonight.
