Malaysia has reiterated its firm stance against ongoing violence in West Asia, calling for an immediate end to hostilities and a renewed commitment to diplomacy grounded in international law and human dignity.
Speaking at the Forum Ilmuwan Malaysia MADANI, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the global community must not remain silent in the face of injustice and oppression caused by geopolitical conflicts.
He noted that the ongoing war in West Asia involving the military actions of Israel and the support of the United States is no longer simply about casualty numbers or damaged infrastructure. Instead, it reflects a broader and troubling tendency of powerful actors seeking to dominate territories and influence while neglecting humanitarian principles.
“The world today is increasingly unsettled by geopolitical rivalries and conflicts. We cannot allow injustice and oppression to silence us,” he said.
According to Anwar, the greatest victims of the war are civilians, particularly women and children, who continue to endure fear, loss, and long-term trauma as the conflict persists.
Malaysia, he stressed, maintains a clear and principled position in urging all parties to halt the violence immediately, reduce tensions, and revive diplomatic channels based on respect for international law and human dignity.
The Prime Minister made the remarks while addressing participants at the forum, which aims to provide an intellectual platform to discuss global geopolitical challenges and their implications.
He also welcomed the presence of renowned economist and academic Jeffrey Sachs as a guest speaker at the event. Sachs, widely recognized for his work on global development, poverty reduction, and international economic policy, has long been involved in discussions on global governance and the future world order.
Anwar expressed hope that academic forums such as this would continue to encourage courageous, fair, and principled thinking in addressing global crises while defending reason and universal human values.
He also conveyed his appreciation to the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia, and Sunway University for organizing the forum.
