Rohingya Issue Needs Comprehensive Solution, Clear Action Plan
SHAH ALAM: It is time for the government to find solutions and formulate a clearer action plan to resolve the Rohingya refugee issue, which is now causing concern among the community.
Dusun Tua State Assemblyman (ADN), Datuk Johan Abd Aziz, said the presence of this ethnic group, who are free to work, run businesses and build settlements, has made them appear as if they are ‘untouchable and above the law’.
“It is understood that they are not allowed to do business, but they can work in scrap metal yards and dumpsites. All this needs to have guidelines and an SOP. Only then will the villagers feel relieved.
“We also have sympathy because they are human too. But what is the appropriate SOP for these Rohingya migrants?” he said when contacted by Media Selangor.
Meanwhile, Johan described the demolition of the Rohingya settlement in Kampung Sungai Makau, Hulu Langat, as still not having relieved residents, given that there are several other areas dominated by the ethnic group.
“Relieved in this particular case, yes. But this is not just limited to one or two places. I have already informed that in other state constituencies (DUN) as well, there are such settlements here in Hulu Langat,” he said.
Previously, Johan was reported as saying that the demolition of building structures at the Rohingya community settlement in Sungai Tekali, Hulu Langat, began yesterday by the landowner.
According to him, the process started yesterday morning and is still not completed, with the demolition of structures beginning first in Kampung Sungai Makau.
The day before yesterday, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the State Government would not compromise on any land encroachment and development without approval, including the illegal settlement in Kampung Sungai Makau.
Amirudin also stressed that the enforcement action taken by the State Government is not based on the background or nationality of the occupants, but instead focuses on legal compliance and land administration aspects.
