RM350,000 Bribery Allegation: Businessman Lodges Police Report, Calls for Senior MACC Officer to Be Relieved of Duties

KUALA LUMPUR: A senior Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officer under police investigation over allegations of receiving RM350,000 has been urged to be temporarily relieved of official duties to prevent any conflict of interest while investigations are ongoing.

A businessman known as Affendy said the move should be considered to ensure that the investigation is conducted independently and transparently, without raising public doubts about the integrity of enforcement institutions.

According to him, allowing an officer facing such serious allegations to continue performing official duties as usual could raise questions about the independence of the investigation.

“This does not mean that he has been found guilty.

“Instead, it is important to protect the integrity of the investigation and prevent any conflict of interest,” he said in a police report lodged on Thursday.

The media previously reported that police had opened two investigation papers concerning allegations that a senior MACC officer had received RM350,000.

One investigation was reportedly being conducted under Section 165 of the Penal Code, while another investigation paper was opened under Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

MACC has also established a special team to re-examine the allegations following instructions from MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman, to ensure that the commission’s integrity remains protected and public confidence in the country’s anti-corruption institution is not undermined.

Meanwhile, Affendy also urged the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), MACC and the government to ensure that the investigations are conducted thoroughly and transparently, while providing the public with updates on their progress to the extent permitted by law.
