KOTA KINABALU, Sept 20 (VoM): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim visited several areas in Sabah on Friday afternoon to personally assess the damage caused by recent floods and landslides across the state.

During his visit, Anwar expressed concern over the severe impact at Institut Pendidikan Guru (IPG) Kampus Gaya and Country Heights Apartments in Penampang, both of which were badly affected and in urgent need of restoration. He directed federal and state agencies to expedite recovery works and review the need for additional funding.

“Our priority now is to restore homes and ensure victims have access to basic necessities,” he said in a statement.

Despite the devastation, the prime minister said he was deeply moved by the resilience of Sabahans, many of whom still managed to smile as he met them at temporary evacuation centers in Sekolah Kebangsaan St Paul Kolopis and Kampung Sarapung. “Insya-Allah, the Federal and State governments will do everything possible to restore normalcy in your lives as soon as possible,” he assured.

Anwar also extended his highest appreciation to security forces, disaster management teams, and volunteers working tirelessly to safeguard affected communities. He highlighted the sacrifices of Sabah Electricity personnel, who worked nonstop to restore power supplies, and expressed condolences over the death of Masedeh Rosmin, who lost his life while on duty.

“Your sacrifice for the people of Sabah will be remembered forever,” he said.

The prime minister further thanked Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and the state government machinery for acting swiftly since the first day of the disaster, focusing on the safety and welfare of the people.

“May Allah grant strength to all who are affected and ease our joint efforts to restore the lives of Sabah’s people,” Anwar added.
