Prime Minister Anwar calls for widespread display of the Jalur Gemilang during National month
CYBERJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has instructed all sectors, both public and private, to display the Jalur Gemilang at their premises throughout the National Month celebrations.
According to Berita Harian, Anwar emphasized that this initiative is a gesture of loyalty, sacrifice, and support for the spirit of independence that Malaysia has enjoyed for the past 67 years.
“Starting today, the MADANI community, every department, every citizen, every shop and stall, whether rich or poor, urban or rural, must demonstrate that you are part of the ‘Jiwa Merdeka’ (Freedom Spirit) and elevate Malaysia,” he said.
Anwar reflected on past sacrifices, noting that people used to contribute valuable items like jewelry for the struggle for independence. He highlighted that the current generation should at least display the Jalur Gemilang.
He stated that if anyone refuses to participate, they should be reminded that this is not about ethnicity, political parties, positions, or jobs but about national identity, dignity, and pride.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the Chief Secretary of the Government will oversee the public sector to ensure that all government premises display the Jalur Gemilang.
“For the private sector, their contribution is significant but sometimes considered trivial. I want to remind them that if the state is not safe, businesses will suffer. Without the sacrifices of the police and military, there would be no new investments. So, show your support,” he said.
Anwar also mentioned that the message to display the Jalur Gemilang throughout National Month will be broadcast repeatedly on television and social media.
He urged young people to understand the true meaning of independence, which was achieved through immense sacrifice.
“Each generation is not asked to make the same sacrifices. Now, the sacrifices are made by our security forces at the borders, at sea, in the jungle, and forests, while we remain safe in cities, towns, and rural areas,” he added.
The Launch of National Month and Jalur Gemilang 2024 aims to foster patriotism and love for the country among Malaysians in preparation for the National Day and Malaysia Day 2024 celebrations. It also seeks to promote National Month celebrations across all layers of society, regardless of race, religion, or political affiliation, based on the Malaysia MADANI aspiration through the ‘One Home, One Jalur Gemilang’ initiative.
The National Day celebration on August 31, 2024, is scheduled to take place in Putrajaya, while Malaysia Day on September 16 will be celebrated in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
