Prices for necessities are still steady in Johor, Perak, and KL

KUALA LUMPUR: According to the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry’s Price Catcher application, the prices of necessities in Kuala Lumpur, Perak, and Johor were largely unchanged today; however, a few items saw minor hikes in some locations.

On Wednesday, May 6, regular cleaned chicken in Kuala Lumpur climbed marginally from RM7.99 to RM10 to RM8.20 to RM11 per kg, while imported onions from India went up from RM2.49 to RM2.69 per kg.

Super grade cleaned chicken, on the other hand, continued to cost between RM10.29 and RM10.90 per kilogram.

All grades of 30-egg trays had consistent prices, with Grade A selling for between RM11.39 and RM14.40, Grade B between RM9.70 and RM13.50, and Grade C between RM8.49 and RM9.70.

Checks at stores in the Ipoh area of Perak revealed that Grade A eggs continued to cost between RM9.90 and RM13.20 per tray, while regular cleaned chicken prices maintained between RM7.59 and RM11 per kg.

Additionally, the price of imported Indian onions was steady from RM1.39 to RM5 per kg.

However, the average price of red chiles went up from RM10 to RM10.99 per kilogram yesterday, with some places in Ipoh charging as much as RM20.

In the meantime, ordinary chicken in Johor was sold in a number of Johor Bahru supermarkets for between RM6.99 and RM11 per kg, up from as little as RM6 on Wednesday.

Grade C eggs went from RM7 to RM8.09 to RM13.35 each tray, while red chillies went from RM4.99 to RM5.90 to RM17 per kg.

The application asserts that ministry officers’ observations at the relevant locations determine the displayed prices.
