PM of Bangladesh to Undertake Official Visit to Malaysia Tomorrow
PUTRAJAYA – The Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Tarique Rahman, will undertake an official visit to Malaysia tomorrow to further strengthen the close bilateral relations between Malaysia and Bangladesh, as well as to enhance cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The visit, at the invitation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, is Tarique’s first official bilateral overseas visit since assuming office last February.
Wisma Putra, in a statement, informed that Tarique will be accorded an official welcoming ceremony, followed by a bilateral meeting with Anwar at the Perdana Putra Complex, Putrajaya.
“Both leaders are expected to review the progress of Malaysia–Bangladesh bilateral relations and explore further cooperation, particularly in key sectors.
“These include trade and investment, human resource management, semiconductors, energy, agriculture and education. Additionally, they will exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest,” the statement said.
Tarique will be accompanied by his wife, Dr Zubaida Rahman; Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman; and senior government officials throughout the visit.
Anwar will also host Tarique at an official luncheon.
They will also witness the exchange of one Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cultural cooperation, as well as two Exchanges of Notes (EoN) in the fields of counter-terrorism research, and investment promotion and facilitation.
In 2025, the total trade between Malaysia and Bangladesh reached RM12.18 billion (USD2.84 billion). Malaysia’s total exports to Bangladesh amounted to RM10.08 billion (USD2.35 billion), with petroleum products being the main commodity.
Total imports from Bangladesh amounted to RM2.10 billion (USD0.50 billion), with the majority contributed by textiles, garments and footwear.
Bangladesh is Malaysia’s 28th largest trading partner, with total trade amounting to RM12.18 billion.
