BACHOK – Failure in two previous Teacher Education Institute (IPG) interview sessions did not dampen the spirit of a school gardener’s daughter in achieving a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.0 in the 2025 Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examination.

Nur Aina Najwa Rosdi, 19, who is a student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sri Gunung here, remains determined to pursue her dream of becoming a teacher.

“I obtained 6A in the 2024 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), but failed in two IPG interview sessions. I was sad, but I did not want to give up.

“Every night I ask for my mother’s prayers and I myself never miss the tahajud prayer, besides praying that the path to becoming a teacher would be made easier,” she said when met by reporters at the 2025 STPM Excellence Award Ceremony at SMK Sri Gunung here today.

At the ceremony, Nur Aina Najwa received an excellence incentive of RM1,500 contributed by the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) and the school’s Excellence Unit.

Nur Aina Najwa said she now hopes to further her studies in the field of education at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) after attending an interview session on June 17.

Meanwhile, her father, Rosdi Mat Ariffin, 58, said he is grateful to see his daughter’s determination even though their family lives modestly.

“I always encourage my children to study hard because education is the best way to change the family’s life,” he said.

SMK Sri Gunung Principal, Azmi Awang said the school made history when all 103 candidates of the 2025 STPM passed with a 100 percent passing rate.
