JAKARTA: Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin on Sunday confirmed that President Prabowo Subianto remains in the country and is closely monitoring developments nationwide, particularly in the capital, Jakarta.

“The President is in the country and continues to monitor developments across the nation, especially in the capital,” Sjamsoeddin said at the Presidential Palace.

He added that President Prabowo has instructed the Indonesian National Police (Polri) and the Armed Forces (TNI) to remain united, work together, and ensure public security.

The President further directed Police Chief Gen. Listyo S. Prabowo and TNI Commander Gen. Agus Subiyanto to take firm and measured action against violations of the law. Criminal acts such as vandalism, looting, and destruction of public or private property must be dealt with decisively, he emphasized.

“If any incidents threaten the safety of officials, including looting of their homes, officers must not hesitate to take decisive action against the perpetrators,” the minister said.

In addition, the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) has been tasked with monitoring the situation closely and reporting developments immediately. Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian has been instructed to coordinate with regional governments to ensure economic stability and the availability of basic needs for the people.

The TNI Commander and the chiefs of staff of the Army, Navy, and Air Force were also instructed to safeguard national security and prevent the unlawful exploitation of natural resources. Meanwhile, the police chief was directed to continue working with Attorney General ST Burhanuddin to strengthen law enforcement nationwide.

“This message is conveyed on the President’s instructions so that all Indonesians are aware and understand it,” Sjamsoeddin said, stressing that President Prabowo “will always stand with the people, supported by the TNI, Polri, and all community organizations.”

The press statement was delivered in the presence of top security and government officials, including the TNI Commander, National Police Chief, BIN Chief Herindra, Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian, and the chiefs of staff of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

Earlier in the day, President Prabowo convened a Cabinet meeting with ministers and senior state officials at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta to discuss the latest national developments.
