KAJANG: Police fired several shots at a vehicle carrying three suspects after they allegedly attempted to ram officers during an operation in Dusun Tua on Sunday night.
Kajang district police chief Naazron Abdul Yusof said the incident occurred at about 9.30pm along Jalan Batu 15 1/4, Dusun Tua, involving a team from the Tampin district police headquarters.
According to police, officers approached the suspects’ vehicle parked by the roadside before the situation turned dangerous when the suspects allegedly tried to drive into the policemen during the arrest attempt.
In response, officers discharged their firearms to stop the vehicle and protect themselves from harm.
Police later managed to detain all three suspects – a local man and two local women who were inside the vehicle.
Investigations revealed that the first suspect had a criminal record involving six offences, including three drug-related cases. The second suspect was found to have four criminal offences and 11 narcotics-related records.
Meanwhile, the third suspect reportedly had six criminal offences and two drug-related cases on record.
Further checks also found that the vehicle was using a fake registration number.
Police additionally seized several mobile phones and remote-control devices believed to be connected to criminal cases currently under investigation by Tampin police.
Authorities are investigating the case under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder and Section 186 for obstructing public servants from carrying out official duties.
