Police Advise Cancellation of Rally Over Upside-Down Jalur Gemilang Issue in Kepala Batas

KUALA LUMPUR: Authorities have urged organizers to cancel a planned rally in Bertam, Kepala Batas today in response to public outrage over the display of an upside-down Jalur Gemilang at a hardware store in Penang.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the move is aimed at safeguarding local community safety and preventing potential clashes between opposing groups.

In a statement, he stressed that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) takes seriously any matter that could jeopardize public safety and harmony.

Police are aware of the rally scheduled for this afternoon in Bertam and have advised against it.

To date, police have received 38 reports regarding the incident, 17 in Penang and 21 from other states.

Investigations are also looking into the actions of individuals who recorded and circulated footage of the upside-down flag.

The investigation paper was submitted to the Penang Deputy Public Prosecutor’s Office on Aug 11 and is currently under review.
