SEREMBAN: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged Malaysians to respect the Jalur Gemilang as a symbol of national pride and unity, reminding all parties not to misuse the flag for political or racial agendas.

Speaking at the opening of Mildef International Technologies Sdn Bhd’s armored vehicle manufacturing facility in Sendayan today, Anwar said any mistake involving the national flag, whether by a government department or a private body, must be addressed responsibly.

“This month is Independence Month, so let us cultivate a spirit of unity that maintains peace and upholds the dignity of our nation. The flag is a sign, a symbol of national pride, and it must be protected,” he said.

The Prime Minister also called on Malaysians to strengthen their spirit of patriotism and love for the country during National Month, stressing that the peace and stability the nation enjoys today is the result of sacrifices made by security forces.

“When we talk about high investment, strong economic growth, and a peaceful nation, we must remember that all this is possible because of the dedication of our armed forces, police, and enforcement agencies. Their contributions must always be appreciated,” he said.

Citing regional conflicts such as the Thai-Cambodian tensions and ongoing fighting in Myanmar, Anwar reminded that Malaysia is not immune to external shocks. “When conflicts erupt, they can spill over into neighboring countries, including Malaysia. That is why our security forces must always remain vigilant and prepared,” he added.
