KOTA BHARU: The General Operations Force (PGA) has foiled an electronic cigarette smuggling attempt and seized 2,560 units of vape pods suspected to be destined for smuggling to the neighbouring country today.

The seizure was made during Op Taring Wawasan Kelantan at 12.15 pm at the Lalang Pepuyu Roadblock, near Tanah Merah.

Commander of the PGA Southeast Brigade, Senior Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Radzi Hussain said earlier his team stopped a suspicious van, before inspection found boxes containing 2,560 units of vape pods.

“The operational team requested documents related to the goods, but the driver failed to produce them.

“The man was then arrested and the vape pods were seized before being taken back to the Taman Bakti Command Post for further action,” he said in a statement.

Following interrogation, he said the man informed that he had collected all the vape pods from around Tanah Merah and they were to be sent to Thailand through an illegal base in Kampung Rahmat, Rantau Panjang.

The arrest and seizure, including the van used, have been referred to KPDN Tanah Merah for investigation under Section 21 of the Supply Control Act 1961.
