BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: First gas production from the Kelidang Cluster development in Brunei Darussalam’s waters is expected to begin in the first half of 2029, after all agreements related to Petronas Carigali’s cooperation in the country have been finalised.

Foreign Minister, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said, all agreements related to the project have been signed, thus paving the way for the development and gas production phase.

“Regarding Petronas Carigali in Brunei’s waters, everything has been completed, has been signed, and the first gas production is expected to be released in early 2029,” he told the Malaysian media in Bandar Seri Begawan on Friday.

The Kelidang Cluster project is Brunei’s first ultra-deepwater gas development and is among Petronas’ strategic projects to enhance the country’s long-term gas supply.

The Kelidang Cluster is located offshore Brunei and involves the development of several gas fields, with the gas produced to be channelled to support the supply to Brunei’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) sector.

Mohamad added, the cooperation reflects the increasingly strong economic and energy relations between Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam, particularly in the oil and gas sector.

He also hopes that the results of the exploration and development can begin to be produced in 2029, thus benefitting both countries.

“We hope that the results of this exploration can be produced in 2029, God willing,” he said.

The matter was among the issues discussed in the Exchange of Letters Meeting between Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam, which also touched on efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance economic cooperation between the two countries.
