OIC Condemns Houthi Attacks on Makkah, Madinah

JEDDAH: The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has strongly condemned the attacks allegedly carried out by the Houthi group against the holy city of Makkah and the Madinah region recently.

In a statement, the OIC General Secretariat said the attacks had caused fear among civilians, violated the sanctity of the holy sites and mosques, and sparked outrage among Muslims around the world.

The OIC said any act targeting holy sites, mosques and public infrastructure constituted a form of terrorism that runs contrary to Islamic values, international norms and universal laws.

According to the organisation, any violation of the sanctity of the holy sites is unacceptable and requires firm action against those responsible.

The OIC also expressed its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and supported all measures taken by the Saudi government to protect civilians, the country’s sovereignty and the sanctity of places of worship.

The organisation also called on the international community to collectively condemn the attacks to prevent further escalation of tensions in the West Asian region.
