Nur Fitri Azmeer Not a UKM Staff Member, Completed PhD in 2021

KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) has denied that the man linked to a paedophilia case, Nur Fitri Azmeer Nordin, is a staff member at the institution.

UKM clarified that Nur Fitri Azmeer had already completed his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) studies at the university in 2021.

“UKM denies that Nur Fitri Azmeer is a UKM staff member.

“As a higher education institution, UKM is committed to ensuring a conducive and professional learning environment for all students,” it said in a statement today.

Previously, a post went viral on social media by an X platform user urging UKM students to inform their parents about the presence of a man linked to a paedophilia case who was allegedly a lecturer at the university.

Nur Fitri Azmeer, who pursued further studies at Imperial College in London, had previously shocked the nation when he was sentenced to nine months in prison for possessing more than 30,000 child pornography images and videos in London, United Kingdom (UK) in 2015.

The Southwark Crown Court handed down the prison sentence against the Mathematics prodigy after he pleaded guilty to 17 charges of possessing paedophile material with intent to distribute it.

When arrested, police found that the student, who held a Mathematics scholarship, possessed 601 videos and pornographic images in Category A – the category involving abuse related to child sexual activity – as well as hundreds of Category B and C pornographic materials.
