KUALA LUMPUR: No Malaysians are involved in the ongoing protests in the United Kingdom (UK), according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to a report by Bernama, the Ministry stated in a statement that it is actively monitoring the situation in the UK through the Malaysian High Commission there.

“The Malaysian High Commission in London has confirmed that no Malaysians are involved in the ongoing protests.

While the situation is being closely monitored, all Malaysians in the UK are advised to avoid protest areas, remain vigilant, and keep up with the latest updates and guidelines provided by local authorities,” the statement said.

The Ministry also stated that it will strive to keep the public informed of any developments.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs advised Malaysians who have not registered with the Malaysian High Commission in London to do so, to ensure they can be contacted and assisted promptly in case of an emergency.

“This will also enable the High Commission to provide timely updates and necessary support,” it said.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysians registering with the Malaysian High Commission in London should provide details if they are visiting the UK for a short period (less than a month), residing, or visiting the UK for more than a month, or if they are Malaysian students in the UK.

For Malaysians visiting the UK for a short period (less than a month), they are advised to send an email to lonmalaysian@kln.gov.my.

The email subject should include the visitor’s last day in the UK followed by their name in the format YYYYMMDD NAME (for example, 20240805 ABU BIN ALI if the last day is August 5, 2024, and the name is Abu bin Ali).

According to the statement, the email should include the names of accompanying family members, identity card numbers, passport numbers, address in the UK, phone numbers, and duration of stay in the UK. Names, phone numbers, and relationships of the next of kin should also be included.

It stated that those residing or visiting the UK for more than a month should register their presence in the UK through the Ministry’s e-Consular service via the website or mobile at https://ekonsular.kln.gov.my or through the Malaysia e-Consular mobile app that can be downloaded for registration.

For Malaysian students, registration can be done through the Ministry of Higher Education’s registration platform at https://dohe.mohe.gov.my/mydata/login, it said.

It added that Malaysians in the UK who have already registered on the TalentCorp MyHeart portal are considered registered with the Malaysian High Commission in London. No further action is required.
