PETALING JAYA: The government will introduce a new curriculum for Form One and Year One students next year, with an emphasis on the safe use of digital platforms.
Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek said the new curriculum would also expose students to digital skills, including the ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) applications and technologies.
“We want our children not to simply rely on AI for answers, but instead learn how to ask better questions.
“Therefore, the new Form One curriculum, which will be implemented next year, will place particular emphasis on how students can safely use various digital applications and platforms while strengthening their skills in these areas,” she said.
She said this at the handover ceremony of the Sekolahku Portal from the Ministry of Digital to the Ministry of Education at Sekolah Kebangsaan Damansara Utama here today.
Also present were Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo, Ministry of Education (MOE) Secretary-General Datuk Wan Hashim Wan Rahim and Ministry of Digital Secretary-General Datuk Fabian Bigar.
Fadhlina said efforts to strengthen students’ digital skills must be accompanied by the inculcation of ethical values and responsibility to ensure they can use technology safely.
She said such exposure was important as advancements in digital technology, particularly AI, require students to develop the ability to evaluate information and use technology wisely.
“Hopefully, the initiatives implemented beginning next year will bring significant benefits to the entire school community,” she said.
Fadhlina also announced an allocation of RM50,000 to support school improvement and development efforts.
“God willing, with this support and allocation, we hope the school environment will become better, more attractive and conducive for children to learn and develop their individual potential,” she said.
She said Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) were also encouraged to submit applications for school maintenance assistance through the provided link to facilitate improvements to school facilities.
“Further information and the application link are available through the relevant websites and social media platforms.
“This is also part of the government’s broader efforts to ensure that school facilities and environments are always well maintained and meet the needs of the education community,” she said.
