KATHMANDU, Sept 11 (VoM): A Nepalese military helicopter was deployed on Wednesday to airlift senior government officials after they were surrounded and trapped by furious demonstrators in the capital, Kathmandu.

Local media reported that the officials had been attending a closed-door meeting when protesters gathered outside the venue, blocking all exits and chanting slogans against government policies.

As tensions escalated, security forces struggled to disperse the crowd, prompting authorities to call in an airlift operation to ensure the officials’ safety.

Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes in the heart of the capital, with protesters throwing stones and attempting to breach barricades. Several clashes with police were reported, though no immediate casualties were confirmed.

The protest is part of a wider wave of unrest in Nepal over economic challenges, corruption allegations, and frustration with the government’s handling of basic services.

Officials rescued by helicopter have not been publicly named, but government sources confirmed they were “high-ranking members” involved in policy discussions.

Authorities have vowed to strengthen security around government offices as demonstrations continue to spread across Kathmandu and other urban centers.
