KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 26,000 business licences have been revoked across Malaysia as part of a nationwide enforcement operation aimed at ensuring compliance with local regulations and curbing illegal business activities, according to Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming.

Nga said the revocations, recorded as of May this year, reflect the government’s commitment to strengthening governance, protecting legitimate businesses and ensuring that commercial operators adhere to licensing requirements set by local authorities.

He noted that enforcement actions were carried out by local councils and relevant agencies following inspections and investigations into businesses found to be operating in violation of regulations, including licence misuse and non-compliance with local laws.

“The government will not compromise when it comes to enforcing regulations. Businesses must operate within the legal framework and comply with the conditions set by local authorities,” he said.

According to Nga, the nationwide operation forms part of broader efforts to improve regulatory compliance, enhance public confidence and create a fair business environment for legitimate entrepreneurs.

The minister stressed that enforcement activities would continue throughout the country, with authorities closely monitoring business operations to ensure adherence to licensing conditions and legal requirements.

He added that local governments have been instructed to intensify inspections and take firm action against operators who fail to comply with regulations or misuse permits and licences.

Nga said the ministry remains committed to supporting lawful business activities while safeguarding the interests of consumers, local communities and legitimate business owners.

The latest figures underscore the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen enforcement, improve accountability and maintain order in the country’s commercial sector.
