MWL Secretary-General Dr. Al-Issa Meets Afghan Prime Minister in Kabul, Calls for Stronger Role of Muslim Scholars
KABUL, July 23 (Voice of Malaysia): Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL) and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, paid an official visit to the Afghan capital on Tuesday, where he held high-level talks with Afghan Prime Minister Hassan Akhund.
The meeting, held at the historic Jal Khana Palace within the presidential compound in Kabul, focused on strengthening cooperation between Afghanistan and global Islamic institutions, with an emphasis on the pivotal role of religious scholars in promoting peace, unity, and constructive dialogue across the Muslim world.
According to a statement released by the Saudi Press Agency, the two sides discussed a wide range of issues of mutual interest. A key theme of the meeting was the importance of empowering Islamic scholars to address the pressing challenges of the Muslim world through informed and principled engagement.
“The engagement highlighted the importance of scholarly leadership in addressing major contemporary challenges through constructive and informed dialogue,” the SPA noted.During the meeting, both leaders expressed a strong commitment to religious moderation, countering extremism, and advancing humanitarian and educational initiatives. Dr. Al-Issa emphasized that the Muslim World League remains dedicated to fostering inclusive dialogue and scholarly engagement among Muslim-majority nations.
The talks also explored avenues for community-level cooperation, support for educational institutions, and strengthening Afghanistan’s participation in international Islamic platforms.
Dr. Al-Issa and Prime Minister Akhund reaffirmed their shared belief that Muslim scholars must take a proactive role in shaping discourse around key issues—including social justice, economic development, sectarian unity, and regional stability.
Dr. Al-Issa also lauded Afghanistan’s commitment to engaging with global Islamic bodies and reiterated the MWL’s readiness to support Afghan communities through humanitarian relief, religious education, and grassroots development efforts.
