Mother Found Dead in Suspected Murder, Son Arrested

KENINGAU: A man has been arrested to assist investigations into the death of his mother, who was found with injuries believed to have been inflicted with a sharp weapon at a rented house in Kampung Katagayan, Tambunan, on Friday.

Keningau District Police Chief Superintendent Erwansyah Abdul Basir said police received a report regarding the death of the 56-year-old woman at about 2pm.

“Preliminary investigations found that the victim had sustained injuries caused by a sharp weapon.

“The suspect was later tracked down and detained by villagers at a hut in Kampung Sukung, Tambunan, before being taken by the villagers to the Tambunan Police Station,” he said in a statement on Saturday.

He said upon the suspect’s arrival at the Tambunan Police Station compound, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Keningau District Police Headquarters (IPD) formally placed him under arrest.

“Investigators and forensic personnel conducted an examination at the scene and seized several items believed to be connected to the incident.

“The victim’s body was also sent to hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death,” he said.

Erwansyah said the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

“Further investigations are ongoing to determine the motive and establish the full chronology of the incident,” he said.
