MB: Education a State Priority to Help Improve People’s Living Standards
SHAH ALAM: Education is one of Selangor’s key approaches in efforts to eradicate poverty and improve the people’s living standards, particularly among low-income families.
Dato’ Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said access to quality education enables students to develop their capabilities, secure better jobs and break the cycle of intergenerational poverty.
He said initiatives implemented include the Selangor People’s Tuition Programme (PTRS), as well as support for students pursuing further studies at higher education institutions.
“Selangor wants to ensure that financial constraints do not hinder the potential of the state’s children. These educational opportunities must be followed by skills development and access to higher-paying jobs.
“This approach is also part of the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2) agenda, which aims to provide 100,000 higher-paying jobs. This reflects our aspiration for economic growth to create opportunities for the people to improve their lives,” he said in a Facebook post.
Amirudin also stressed the need to develop a fair wage index that takes into account differences in the cost of living according to locality.
He said a measurement that reflects the actual circumstances faced by the people could help the government formulate more effective social protection measures.
Earlier, Amirudin was a panellist at the 2026 Youth Economic Forum organised by the Perdana Fellows Alumni Association (PFAA) on Sunday.
The forum brought together young people, policymakers, industry leaders and academics to discuss the direction of the economy and the well-being of the people.
