Man Who Threatened Female Driver and Demanded Compensation Arrested by Police

JOHOR BAHRU: Police have arrested a man who threatened and demanded compensation from a female driver after claiming that his motorcycle was hit by her vehicle, following a viral video recording on social media.

Johor Bahru Utara District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Radin Ramlan Radin Taha, said the 38‑year‑old suspect was arrested at 1.20 am yesterday in Taman Universiti, Skudai.

He said the arrest was made following a report lodged by a 30‑year‑old local woman at 12.49 pm last Friday.

“In the incident, which occurred at around 11.30 am, the suspect, who was riding a motorcycle in Taman Universiti, approached the victim before claiming that the victim had hit his motorcycle, leading to an argument.

“Noticing the presence of a man at the location, the woman then sounded her vehicle’s horn, causing both suspects to flee,” he said in a statement here today.

Radin Ramlan informed that the arrested local male suspect has been remanded for four days until this Tuesday, while checks revealed that the suspect has nine prior records related to criminal and drug offences.

“The case is being investigated under Section 384 of the Penal Code for extortion and Section 341 of the same code for wrongful restraint. Efforts to trace another suspect are being intensified,” he said.
