Malaysians Stranded in Flood-Hit Northern India to be Evacuated on Earliest Flights, Says Wisma Putra
PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia is making immediate arrangements to evacuate its citizens stranded in flood- and landslide-hit northern India, the Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra) confirmed on Wednesday.
In a statement, Wisma Putra said the Malaysian High Commission in New Delhi is closely monitoring the worsening situation following days of continuous monsoon rains that have triggered severe flooding and landslides across several northern states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Arunachal Pradesh.
“The High Commission has received reports of Malaysians stranded in Jammu as well as in Leh, Ladakh. Contact has been successfully established with them, and arrangements are underway for their departure via the earliest available flights,” the ministry said.
The Foreign Ministry also strongly advised Malaysians to defer all non-essential travel to the affected regions until further notice, stressing that the safety and well-being of Malaysians abroad remain its utmost priority.
Wisma Putra further urged Malaysians currently in the affected areas to register their presence, comply with instructions issued by local authorities, and take necessary precautions.
