KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 17: Muslims in Malaysia will begin observing the fasting month of Ramadan on Thursday, February 19, following the official announcement by the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal, Syed Danial Syed Ahmad.
Wearing a light yellow baju Melayu, Syed Danial made the announcement during a live broadcast on Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) on Tuesday night. He said the date was determined by the order of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, and was agreed upon by the Conference of Rulers.
The announcement followed the sighting of the new moon earlier on Tuesday, which confirmed the start of the holy month for Muslims across the country.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar and is regarded as the holiest month for Muslims, marked by fasting from dawn to dusk, increased prayers, charity, and spiritual reflection.
Authorities and religious bodies are expected to issue guidelines and preparations for Ramadan activities nationwide, including prayers, charity programs, and community events.
