KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Defence, through Yayasan Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (Yayasan LTAT), continues to empower the future of its personnel’s children through various comprehensive educational initiatives, ranging from primary school level to the workplace.

Through a Facebook post, the ministry informed that these initiatives are provided as an effort to ensure that the students continue to excel, remain competitive and achieve their best potential.

For the early schooling stage, among the initiatives taken include providing a contribution of RM50 to 3,328 Year One students among Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) children, credited directly into their National Education Savings Scheme (SSPN) accounts under the MADANI Education Savings Programme as a start to their future education savings.

In an effort to strengthen exposure to future-oriented fields, the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education Programme is also being implemented in collaboration with TalentCorp and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).

It opens opportunities for Form Two and Form Three students at four schools within military camps to explore STEM fields. The programme aims to cultivate interest and provide early exposure to students in high-technology fields.

As for helping Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination candidates, the SPM Elite Touch Programme has benefited 616 Form Five students at six schools within camps through motivational programmes, question-answering technique workshops, intensive tuition and SPM final intensive revision.

Meanwhile, the e-PERKASA SPM Programme, implemented in collaboration with Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), provides free online tuition and laptop assistance to 664 ATM children studying outside camps to improve their academic performance.

For pursuing studies at a higher level, the Ministry of Defence also provides various higher education scholarship opportunities to defence personnel’s children, including the YLTAT-IIUM Ummatic Scholarship, which comes with an allowance, as well as the City University Malaysia Scholarship and the Kings University College Scholarship.

In terms of graduate employability, the PROWIRA – Ready To Work (RTW) Graduate Programme has been introduced as an industry exposure programme to help bachelor’s degree graduates build experience, enhance professional skills and strengthen their readiness before stepping into the workplace.
