KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 27: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, together with his ASEAN counterparts and Republic of Korea (ROK) President Yoon Suk Yeol, posed for a photo symbolizing unity and partnership with the traditional ASEAN handshake during the 26th ASEAN–ROK Summit held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) today.

The summit, convened in conjunction with the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, focused on strengthening regional cooperation in trade, innovation, and security between ASEAN member states and South Korea.

In his opening remarks, Anwar emphasized the importance of deepening economic integration and technological collaboration, noting that “ASEAN and the Republic of Korea share a common vision for sustainable growth, digital transformation, and regional peace.”

President Yoon reaffirmed South Korea’s commitment to supporting ASEAN’s centrality in regional affairs and announced new initiatives in green technology, digital economy, and cultural exchange programs aimed at boosting people-to-people connectivity.

Leaders also discussed regional and global challenges, including maritime security, supply chain resilience, and climate change adaptation. The meeting concluded with a joint statement reaffirming their shared commitment to peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.

The ASEAN–ROK Summit has been a cornerstone of partnership since its establishment in 1989, and this year’s gathering marks another milestone in advancing mutual trust and cooperation under Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2025.
