KOTA BHARU: The Kelantan Road Transport Department (JPJ) has seized 13 luxury vehicles valued at nearly RM5 million during a statewide enforcement operation that began on July 1.

Kelantan JPJ director Misuari Abdullah said the operation focused on imported and high-end vehicles to ensure compliance with road transport laws.

Among the major offenses detected were expired motor vehicle licenses, lack of insurance coverage, driving without a license, and falsification of documents.

“There are luxury car owners who go as far as using fake registration numbers to avoid detection, as well as cases where foreigners drive luxury vehicles without valid licenses,” Misuari was quoted by Bernama as saying.

The seized vehicles include Toyota Vellfire, Toyota Alphard, BMW 523i, Ford Mustang Fastback, Mercedes E250 CGI, and Nissan GTR models.

Between January and July, Kelantan JPJ recorded 10,233 offenses involving expired licenses, 8,432 cases of no insurance, and 11,004 cases of driving without a license.

The department said enforcement efforts will continue to curb such offenses and ensure road safety in the state.
