BUTTERWORTH, June 20— The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will begin auditing 500 high-risk operators of public service vehicles (PSV) and goods commercial vehicles (GCV) nationwide starting Monday (June 23), under a special safety inspection and audit operation.
JPJ Director-General Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the initiative, ordered by Transport Minister Anthony Loke, aims to ensure that operators comply with safety standards as stipulated under the Land Public Transport Act and Road Transport Act 1987.
“The operation will evaluate operators’ adherence to vehicle safety, maintenance, driver management, and regulatory compliance. It also includes a technical review of vehicles and the resolution of outstanding issues related to ownership and licensing,” Aedy Fadly said during a press conference after officiating the Penang-level MyLesen B2 Driving License Program 2025.
He emphasized that the move follows a concerning rise in heavy vehicle accidents, including the tragic June 9 crash that claimed the lives of 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students.
Aedy Fadly revealed that the JPJ, in collaboration with the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD), has identified 500 high-risk operators based on records of outstanding summonses. These include 300 lorries, 100 tour buses, and 100 express buses.
“Strict action will be taken against any operators found to have breached safety regulations, including the issuance of violation notices, suspension, or even cancellation of vocational driving or operator licences,” he added.
The audit marks a decisive step by authorities to reinforce road safety and accountability in Malaysia’s commercial transport sector.
