JAKARTA, Nov 10: Indonesian police believe that the explosions, which injured dozens of worshippers at a mosque in the capital last week, may have been motivated by personal issues rather than religious extremism.

The blasts occurred during Friday prayers at a mosque located within a school complex in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, leaving more than 50 people hospitalized with burns and other injuries.

Jakarta police spokesperson Budi Hermanto told state news agency Antara that early investigations indicate no religious motivation behind the attack.

“The perpetrator is not anti any specific religion,” Hermanto said, adding that the suspect was believed to have acted out of personal frustration.
“It is suspected the perpetrator felt neglected by their family, and it piled up,” he explained.

Authorities identified their main suspect as a 17-year-old student, who reportedly underwent surgery following the explosion. Police did not disclose whether the teenager had been taken into custody or charged.

Investigators also recovered suspected explosive powder and written materials from the scene, though they have yet to reveal further details about their contents.

Police continue to investigate the motive and source of the explosives, while victims remain under medical care in several Jakarta hospitals.

The incident has prompted tighter security measures across schools and places of worship in the capital as authorities seek to ensure public safety.
