Government Ready To Reveal RCI TH Report Today Or Next Week, Says PM Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR: The government is ready to disclose the final report of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) regarding Tabung Haji (TH) to enable the public to scrutinise allegations regarding the agency’s sale of strategic assets previously.

Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said he would refer to the Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, on whether he is ready to reveal the report today or after next Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting.

“I will discuss with the Chief Secretary to the Government whether this process should be referred to the Cabinet first.

“If it is not necessary, I will publish it today. If it is necessary, I will wait until Wednesday (next week after the Cabinet meeting) because the people must know,” he said.

He said this when met by the media after officiating the Humane Economy Global Discourse (HEGD) 2026 at the World Trade Centre (WTC) Kuala Lumpur today.

Also present were Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Dr Zulkifli Hasan, and Chairman of the Humane Economy Forum (HEF), Prof Datuk Dr Saadiah Mohamad.

Zulkifli, when answering a question in the Dewan Negara yesterday, informed that the sale of TH’s uncompetitive and problematic assets to a special purpose company wholly owned by the government, Urusharta Jamaah Sdn Bhd (UJSB), was a collective decision of the Cabinet in 2018.

He said the Auditor‑General and Bank Negara Malaysia revealed TH’s serious financial problems when the deficit gap between the institution’s assets and liabilities reached RM10.9 billion that year.

He said the decision to rescue TH has proven successful, with the institution’s deposits increasing from approximately RM69.4 billion in 2019 to over RM95.1 billion by the middle of this year.

Elaborating further, Anwar said TH is still in the recovery process and the team led by its Chairman, Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Hussain, is implementing all the recommendations and reprimands from the RCI.

“We placed Tan Sri Rashid and a new team to clean up (TH) based on the views and reprimands of the commission’s report, and if we do it (reveal the report) too early, it might cause unease among contributors and depositors.

“Now I think TH has improved and I have absolutely no objection to publishing or disseminating (it), because this report is a right for the people to know,” he said.

He said the government previously did not want to take hasty action in revealing the report in order to focus on the recovery efforts.
