KUALA NERUS, Feb 8: The Malaysian federal government distributed RM200 million in cash assistance to flood victims across the country last year, with 97% of the payments already completed, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said on Sunday.
Ahmad Zahid, who also serves as the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, stated that the remaining 3% of payments are currently being processed and are expected to be fully disbursed within the next three months.
“The delay in the remaining payments is mainly due to incomplete documentation. These cases are being handled by district-level disaster committees, and once all documents are verified, the process will be completed within three months,” he told reporters.
He was speaking after officiating the Rural and Regional Development Ministry retreat program and launching the ministry’s 2026–2030 strategic plan in Kuala Nerus.
Ahmad Zahid also highlighted improvements made to the flood assistance program, including increasing the amount of financial aid and ensuring victims receive payments while still staying at temporary relief centers.
He added that the assistance helps flood-affected families to immediately repair damaged household items and essential equipment, enabling them to recover more quickly from the disaster.
