Special Sitting on TH RCI Report on 11 August

KUALA LUMPUR: A special sitting of the Dewan Rakyat regarding the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on the Pilgrims Fund Board (TH) will take place on 11 August.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the special session will be held on that date after obtaining the agreement of the Dewan Rakyat Speaker, Tan Sri Johari Abdul.

“11 August, a special parliamentary session. I have discussed it with the Speaker and he agreed. (The session) will begin from 10 am until the evening,” he said when met after officiating Maybank’s new headquarters at Menara Merdeka Maybank here today.

TH’s financial crisis, which began with the issue of asset-liability mismatch, led to the implementation of a large-scale recovery plan, followed by the establishment of the RCI to investigate the issues arising for the period 2014 to 2020.

After TH went through a financial and operational stabilisation process, the Cabinet yesterday agreed to declassify and make the RCI report public, besides deciding that further investigations by enforcement bodies should proceed based on the findings.

The report outlines 25 improvement recommendations, with TH’s top management having successfully implemented 75 per cent of them, while the profit distribution of 3.5 per cent for the 2025 financial year recently announced proves that the institution is now in a better state.

Yesterday, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Dr. Zulkifli Hasan described the disclosure of the TH RCI report as proof of the government’s commitment to the principles of transparency, accountability and good governance.

He said the report serves as an opportunity to strengthen TH so that it continues to be trusted by depositors and remains the country’s leading Hajj management institution.

He added that over more than six decades since its establishment, TH has played an important role in managing the savings and Hajj affairs of millions of Malaysians, thus becoming a recognised model of Islamic fund management at the international level.

“The recommendations put forward through the RCI are being implemented in stages to strengthen governance, ensure Shariah compliance and guarantee the operational sustainability of the institution.

“The reforms implemented are also supported by TH’s strong financial performance and international recognition through its consistent success in winning the Labaytum Diamond Award 2026 from the Saudi Arabian Government,” he said.
