They were rescued near Matallang Island after being discovered by a fishing boat passing through the area.

According to the Indonesian search and rescue agency, all the survivors managed to stay alive by clinging to an anchor used by local fishermen.

Makassar Search and Rescue Office Chief, Muhammad Arif Anwar said the five survivors have received medical treatment and are undergoing further examination.

He said additional vessels and personnel from the Kendari and Maumere search and rescue offices have also been deployed to strengthen operations in the expanded search area.
