Nur Alyssa Excited To Face Finucane

KUALA LUMPUR: National women’s track cyclist, Nur Alyssa Farid, is eager to test her ability against British champion Emma Finucane in her debut at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The Selangor-born athlete considers the opportunity to face one of the world’s best sprint cyclists as the perfect stage to gauge her true capabilities, while also chasing new personal records in her events.

“Honestly, I don’t feel pressured. On the contrary, I am very excited and happy because this is my first appearance at the Commonwealth Games.

“My main focus is to break my personal record of 10.6 seconds, and at the same time, I want to give the best challenge possible to riders like Emma,” she said.

Alyssa will be carrying the country’s challenge in two events, namely the Women’s Keirin and Women’s Sprint at the Games, which will take place in Glasgow from July 23 to August 2.

What is even more encouraging is that the 20-year-old rider has confirmed that her physical condition is now at its best, thanks to thorough preparations and intensive training undergone over the past few months.

According to her, her confidence has also increased after successfully overcoming a left knee injury sustained earlier this year, before bouncing back to win the gold medal in the elite keirin event at the ASEAN Track Series (President’s Cup) 2 at the National Velodrome in January.
