China Seeks to Expand Technology and Knowledge Transfer to Malaysia – Ahmad Zahid

BEIJING: China is seeking to strengthen and expand cooperation with Malaysia through technology and knowledge transfer, moving beyond an investment-focused approach, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said the matter was among the key points emphasised during his meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Ding Xuexiang, particularly in efforts to expand high-level strategic cooperation between the two countries.

Ahmad Zahid said the cooperation would not only involve investments by Chinese companies in Malaysia but would also encompass technology transfer through bilateral collaboration, including the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project and the electric vehicle (EV) sector.

“He (Ding) also proposed several new initiatives for Malaysia to consider, reflecting China’s intention to transfer not only technology but also knowledge, which I believe is very much welcomed,” he told a press conference here today.

Earlier, Ahmad Zahid, who is on a five-day working visit to China, paid a courtesy call on Ding at the Great Hall of the People here, with the meeting lasting approximately 30 minutes.
