KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 25 :  For many visitors, spending Christmas far from home has turned into an unforgettable experience, as Kuala Lumpur’s vibrant cityscape and warm hospitality offered a unique festive atmosphere this holiday season.

Among them was Romanian economist Alina Pintea, 45, who spent 15 hours in the Malaysian capital during a layover en route to Australia. Despite initial uncertainty about leaving the airport, Pintea said the stopover became a pleasant surprise.

Visiting Kuala Lumpur for the first time, she described being captivated by the city’s energy and iconic landmarks, particularly the Petronas Twin Towers. Although travelling during Christmas meant being away from her children, she viewed the journey as a rare opportunity to enjoy personal time during the holidays.

“It is a little bittersweet not being with family, but I felt truly grateful to experience this city during the festive season,” she said, adding that the trip felt like a special Christmas gift to herself.

Meanwhile, British couple Oliver Smith, 35, and Freya Smith, 39, marked the holiday as part of a Far East tour that also includes Singapore and Thailand. Their itinerary in Kuala Lumpur blended sightseeing with family time, as they visited Freya’s sister, who works as a music teacher at an international school in the city.

The couple said celebrating Christmas in Malaysia’s tropical climate was a refreshing change. From exploring Chinatown and learning about its history to staying at a jungle resort and visiting landmarks such as Merdeka 118 and the Petronas Twin Towers, they found the experience memorable and enriching.

“It’s definitely not a traditional Christmas, but it has been exciting and full of discovery,” they said, expressing hopes for good fortune and happiness in the year ahead.

Adding to the festive mix was 16-year-old Syahla Rana Puteri from Indonesia, who arrived in Kuala Lumpur with her family earlier this week. The high school student from Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, said she was enjoying the smooth travel conditions and the city’s attractions.

She highlighted the River of Life as one of her favourite spots and shared her wish for a positive and joyful year ahead for her family, as they continue their holiday journey beyond Kuala Lumpur.

As the year draws to a close, Kuala Lumpur continues to charm visitors from around the world, offering a warm and welcoming setting for those celebrating the festive season far from home.
