Fahmi urges SKMM to expand search for monitoring drug sale accounts on social media

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM) has been urged to further expand its investigation and search to identify any other parties who may be attempting to sell drugs on social media platforms.

According to the Wilayah portal, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil made this statement after informing that an account on TikTok allegedly selling drugs has been removed and is no longer accessible.

“I was informed about a complaint posted on platform X yesterday regarding drug sales on TikTok.

“The search this morning showed that TikTok has taken action to remove the account,” he said.

He made these remarks at a press conference following the Cabinet meeting at the Ministry of Communications.

Meanwhile, Fahmi stated that a police report has been filed by SKMM, and they have handed over the matter to the police for investigation.

He noted that SKMM will also contact TikTok for further clarification regarding the detected account on social media that is alleged to be selling drugs.

Earlier, a man claimed that individuals were selling lollipop-shaped candies believed to contain drugs on TikTok.

A man using the name Daddy Rah, in a video post, claimed that parents in Thailand have already been warned about the dangers of these candies.

At the same time, he criticized the operator of the social media account for frequently blocking beneficial content while allowing such harmful posts.
