Do not underestimate the impact of cyberbullying, says Azman Abidin
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians are urged to be more sensitive and cautious in their social media writing, said the Prime Minister’s Political Secretary Datuk Azman Abidin.
He, who is also the Chairman of the Federal Territory Leadership Council, stated that all parties should not take lightly the effects of cyberbullying.
He also called on PKR members, particularly in the Federal Territory, to set an example in demonstrating a political culture on social media.
“Let us not follow the coarse and uncivilized language used by outdated politicians.
“Instead, let us adopt a professional and courteous style in every piece of writing and word on digital platforms,” he said in a statement.
According to Azman, in the effort to manage social media responsibly, society needs to embrace and instill the value of respect.
He stated that this step is one of the key pillars in the concept of Malaysia Madani, which was inspired by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“Respecting one another is the foundation for building a more harmonious and united society.
“With strong support from all segments of society, I am confident that we can stop cyberbullying and foster a more positive and constructive communication culture,” he said.
According to data from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM), an average of 10 cases of cyberbullying occur daily in the country over the two-year period from 2022 to July 9.
PKR President Anwar also expressed his concern regarding these alarming statistics.
