No Malaysians affected by the earthquake in Syria

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reported that, for now, no Malaysians have been affected by the earthquake that occurred in the city of Hama, Syria.

The ministry stated that the Malaysian Embassy in Beirut and the Honorary Consul of Malaysia in Syria are actively coordinating efforts with local authorities to obtain the latest information and monitor the current situation.

“Malaysians in the affected areas are advised to remain vigilant and follow current developments as well as the instructions given by local authorities.

“Malaysians who have not registered their whereabouts are strongly encouraged to do so at https://ekonsular.kln.gov.my,” the ministry said in a statement.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs mentioned that Malaysians in need of consular assistance can contact the Honorary Consul of Malaysia in Syria or the Malaysian Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon.

Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Malaysian Embassy in Beirut and the Honorary Consul of Malaysia in Syria, stated that they are closely monitoring developments following the earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 that struck east of the city of Hama, Syria, at 11:56 PM local time yesterday.

The tremors were felt in Syria and Lebanon and were also experienced as far as Jordan and Turkey.
