Kuala Lumpur, Sept 11 (Vom): Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has ordered authorities to act swiftly after Dang Wangi police chief ACP Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman was injured during a clash with Kampung Sungai Baru residents facing eviction today.

Sulizmie suffered a bleeding facial wound after being struck by an object in the confrontation, according to Harian Metro.

Anwar, in a statement, condemned the attack as a “despicable act” instigated by “irresponsible quarters with vested interests” and directed police to immediately identify and arrest both the mastermind and the assailant.

“The government respects the right to peaceful assembly, but such freedoms cannot be abused for narrow political purposes or to create unrest,” he said. “Violence driven by provocation, hatred, and disinformation must never be allowed to take root in society.”

The Kampung Sungai Baru redevelopment project, first initiated in 2016, has long been stalled due to legal disputes, compensation disagreements, and opposition from some residents. In July, Federal Territories Minister Dr. Zaliha Mustafa said the project was expected to finally begin in early 2026 following land acquisition approvals involving 110 properties.

Anwar reiterated that while peaceful protest is a democratic right, assaulting public servants is unacceptable. “Attacking and injuring an officer carrying out his duty must be condemned in the strongest terms,” he said.
