Constitution (Amendment) Bill is necessary for Parliament to be able to work as a separate, sovereign body: Prime Minister
Before the Parliamentary Services Bill 2025 can take effect, the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2025 must receive approval. This will allow Parliament to be a separate and sovereign body.
According to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the suggested change to the Federal Constitution would not only make Parliament more independent but also be a big step forward in reforming the country’s institutions.
“We are serious about keeping our word and carrying out our mission.” Parliament is currently part of the Prime Minister’s Department.
“However, the Prime Minister chose to give Parliament this power and strengthen it as a separate body.” He said this when he brought up the Constitution (Amendment) Bill for the second reading in the Dewan Negara on Thursday (March 20): “It’s easy to talk about institutional reform, but it’s difficult to get a prime minister who is willing to hand over power… but we have to do it because this will strengthen the spirit.”
It was Anwar who said that the Constitution (Amendment) Bill made it possible for the long-talked-about Parliamentary Services Bill 2025 to be brought up and passed in the Dewan Rakyat. The Bernama
