During his three-day state visit to Malaysia, Chinese President Xi Jinping wants to strengthen the traditional friendship between China and Malaysia, build trust in politics, and move the China-Malaysia community toward a shared future.

Xi said that while he is there, he will have a deep conversation with His Majesty, Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim about problems of mutual interest in ASEAN and China.

“I am sure that this visit will be useful if we all work together on it.”

His words were published by the Chinese Embassy in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday (April 15). “Together, we will open up a new chapter in the annals of our good neighborly ties and mutually beneficial cooperation and begin another 50 golden years in China-Malaysia relations,” he said.

Xi also said he was happy to go back to Kuala Lumpur for a state visit because Sultan Ibrahim had asked him to.

“I made my first state visit to Malaysia twelve years ago, and I have many happy memories of that trip.”

“I feel warm coming back today.” “I want to send warm greetings and best wishes to the government and people of Malaysia on behalf of the Chinese government and people,” he said.
He said that China and Malaysia were good neighbors across the water who had a “traditional friendship that goes back thousands of years.”

“For more than half a century since we began diplomatic relations, our two countries have always respected each other, treated each other as equals, and enjoyed mutually beneficial cooperation, setting a fine example for state-to-state relations,” he added.

“We all agreed on many important things in 2023 about building a China-Malaysia community with a shared future.”

“We marked the 50th anniversary of our diplomatic ties last year.” China and Malaysia are both big, growing nations that are part of the Global South.

“Deepening our high-level strategic cooperation is good for the common interests of both China and Malaysia and good for peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and the world,” Xi said.

At 6:48 p.m. on Tuesday, the special plane bringing Xi and his group landed at the Bunga Raya Complex, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

To greet the Chinese president, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim spoke.
