Albanese was given a red-carpet ceremonial send-off at the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Subang Air Base, along with a guard of honor mounted by the First Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment. The ceremony was led by Capt. Muhammad Nafis Norshid.

The aircraft carrying the prime minister and his delegation took off at approximately 8.30pm. Malaysia’s Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Arthur Joseph Kurup, was present to bid farewell.

During the visit, Anthony Albanese was officially welcomed at the Perdana Putra Complex in Putrajaya, where he held a one-on-one meeting and later a bilateral discussion with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. The talks were joined by senior ministers and officials from both nations.

Following the meetings, both leaders witnessed the exchange of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), covering key areas of mutual interest, reflecting the growing depth of cooperation between the two countries.

Albanese also visited the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, where he held discussions with Malaysian officials and Petroliam Nasional Berhad representatives, including chief operating officer Mohd Jukris Abdul Wahab.

Australia remains a key economic partner for Malaysia, ranking as its 12th largest trading partner in 2025, with total bilateral trade reaching RM78.63 billion (US$18.38 billion).

Malaysia and Australia elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) in 2021, providing a strong framework to expand collaboration in economic growth, technology, and social development, as well as defense and regional security.
