Senior Police Officer Among Six Charged Over Armed Gang Robbery in Kuala Lumpur

KUALA LUMPUR: Six men, including a senior police officer, have been charged in the Sessions Court here over a series of armed gang robberies targeting residential areas in Kepong earlier this month.

Deputy Superintendent Ahmad Ruzaini Ahmad Dahalan, 41, along with five alleged accomplices, Abd Samat Shaari, Faridzuan Yahya, Lim Cheal Kei, Yeoh Choon Siang, and L. Jijayendran, pleaded not guilty to multiple charges before four separate Sessions Courts.

According to court documents, the accused are alleged to have committed robbery while brandishing a firearm, instilling fear of death among victims. The charges fall under the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, read together with the Penal Code, which carries a severe penalty of 30 to 40 years’ imprisonment and a minimum of six strokes of the cane upon conviction.

Ahmad Ruzaini Ahmad Dahalan, who previously served with the Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) at Bukit Aman, is also facing an additional charge of gang robbery under Section 395 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to 20 years’ jail and caning.

The alleged offenses took place between 4am and 8.10am on April 5 in a residential area in Desa ParkCity. The remaining five accused were similarly charged with multiple counts of gang robbery at the same location and time.

Due to the serious nature of the offenses, the court did not grant bail to any of the accused. The prosecution was led by Kuala Lumpur Prosecution Director Datuk Mohd Nordin Ismail.

The court has fixed May 25 for the next mention of the case.

Earlier, on April 10, Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus confirmed the arrest of a police officer believed to be the mastermind behind a string of armed robberies in Kepong, involving estimated losses of RM4.4 million.

Investigations revealed that the group allegedly made off with three luxury vehicles, a safe, RM24,200 in cash, US$1,200 in foreign currency, jewelry, and two gold bars.
